About the Author Hello, my name is Sydney! I am a sixth grader at United Local Elementary. My hobbies are, competitive cheering, dancing, and playing the violin. I also participate in the gifted program at my school. I like being a part of it because it challenges me more and more! Now that you know some things about me, I can’t wait to show you my work throughout the school year!

Me as a Reader I came into to the sixth grade as a level Y reader. Since then I have improved to a Z, and honestly, I am proud of it! I think that I can improve a lot more through the six more years of schooling I have ahead of me. I hope that I will be able to read adult level books while still in school. That’s how I see myself as a reader!

Me as a Writer I see myself as a creative writer. I feel as though I come up with good stories and essays, and I think that my handwriting is neat for the most part. Although I could use some help with a lot more interesting facts, thoughts, and detail. I think that overall I am a pretty good writer!

Fall is…(Journal Entry) Fall to me is the smell and sight of crumbled up leaves falling to the ground! What also comes to mind is the fun of carving pumpkins. We always place them on our front porch. Another thing that I think of when I think of autumn is the tasteful deserts served around that time of year. The pies, and White House donuts with a glass of apple cider! All of this stuff is fun, but my favorite part of fall is when all the relatives come to visit for Halloween and Thanksgiving! That’s what I think of when I think of fall!

Fall Is Reflection I chose to add this piece to my portfolio because it had a lot of detail. I think I used transition words properly. (our focus for the entry) I like to look back at this and think of all the fun times in Autumn. That’s why I chose this piece!

Fav. Journal Entry If Only Essay I recently just finished a book called If Only by Carol Geithner! I loved this book, it was so inspirational, I would definitely refer it to a friend! In this book Emily, (the main character) is dealing with a really hard time in her life. Her mom has cancer, and doesn’t have very long to live. So everyday before, and after school, she has to come home, or get up, only to see her dying mother in the living room. I personally think it would be really hard to lose your mom if you were a girl. This is because it sometimes can be hard to talk to your dad. Same for boys. I feel bad for Emily because her friends haven’t lost their moms, so therefore they don’t exactly know what to say. So sometimes when they try to say something encouraging, it actually just hurts. That’s what gets Emily into a bad position. This book made me realize that every day is a gift, and it might be our last, so make it count! I am so glad I have a healthy family, and I hope I never take that for granted!

Journal Entry Reflection I chose this journal entry because it was toward the middle of the year so it shows basically my average writing skills; and it was a good piece! I really enjoyed the book, and writing about it. It was easy to come up with things to say because the book was packed with detail!

Mrs. Grimm’s Class Mrs. Grimm teaches Math and Science. I had a lot of fun with Science experiments in her class! Math was a little challenging at times, but that’s what made me learn. I enjoyed her a lot as a teacher, and I respect the way she handles tough situations. I definitely learned the most in 6 th grade overall, it was quite the challenge! I’m sad that the year has to come to an end, but I think Mrs. Grimm has prepared us for what is ahead!

Mrs. Tedeschi’s Class On the other hand of Mrs. Grimm, Mrs. Tedeschi taught Literacy and Social Studies! Those subjects are usually my least favorite, but Mrs. Tedeschi changed that to the point where I don’t have favorites anymore! Mrs. Tedeschi always looked at the student’s point of view before making a decision, and I admire that! She always made Social Studies fun and interesting! I will definitely miss Mrs. Tedeschi as a teacher!

Year In Review I think that this has been an awesome year. My homeroom teacher was Mrs. Grimm, and Mrs.Tedeschi was my switch teacher. I enjoyed the year overall, I’ve had a good luck streak for about 6 weeks now! Everything has just fallen into place! I’m so excited for next year based on what I have learned in 6 th grade! But I will miss Elementary. It’s sweet and sour!

Good Bye Elementary!
