4. Carbohydrates are the most common form of energy obtained from food. Starches are common carbohydrates. They have twice as many hydrogen atoms as oxygen atoms, and all carbohydrates contain carbon.

5. Starches form when sugar, glucose, join together in a long chain. Starches need to be broken down into sugars to be digested. Whole grains are good for you, because it takes the digestive system longer to break them down.
