Krebs Cycle

Cellular Respiration Process by which our cells produce energy from the foods we eat 3 parts: – Glycolysis – Krebs cycle – Electron transport chain

Cellular Respiration Glucose + oxygen react in the cells to form carbon dioxide + water + ATP C 6 H 12 O 6 + 6O 2 -------> 6CO 2 + 6H 2 O + 38 ATP

Krebs Cycle Part of cellular respiration Takes place in the mitochondria Produces 2 ATPs (energy) for the cell and several NADH molecules Also called the citric acid cycle

Krebs Cycle Pyruvic acid from glycolysis joins the Krebs cycle Pyruvic acid broken down into CO 2 and ATP – ATP= energy for the cell – CO2= transported out of the cell as a waste product Electrons removed during the cycle are transported to the electron transport chain
