What are WATCH D.O.G.S.?

Why is it so important for fathers and father figures to be engaged in a child’s life? We know kids develop more fully socially, physically, academically, emotionally and spiritually when they have a positive male role model actively engaged in their life. We also know divorced dad doesn ’ t necessarily mean bad dad. Just like married dad doesn ’ t necessarily mean good dad.

What do studies say about Poverty, Crime, Education, Health and Teen Pregnancy? Children from fatherless homes are… POVERTY – 5 times more likely to live at or below the poverty level. CRIME – at a dramatically higher risk of personal and property delinquencies and of substance abuse and smoking. EDUCATION – 2 times as likely to repeat a grade and 2 times as likely to DROP OUT OF SCHOOL.(Father involvement in school is associated with the likelihood of students getting mostly A’s in school!) HEALTH – Obese children are more likely to live in father-absent homes. TEEN PREGNANCY – Teens without involved fathers are twice as likely to be involved in early sexual activity and 7 times more likely to get pregnant as an adolescent!

What are the two main objectives of the WATCH D.O.G.S. program? 1. Provide positive male role models for the students. 2. Enhance school security.

Who are WATCH D.O.G.S. volunteers? You Are!
