1 Traveling Across the Regions Part One Mrs. Elliott

2 Mrs. Elliott is on a mission to visit the US. »

3 She wants to tour fantastic places across the country, but she also needs to tell her husband, Tim, how far she has traveled. You see, she got a new car this summer and Tim is worried about putting too many miles on the car. Please help Mrs. Elliott figure out the distance by using map scale. This could keep her out of trouble.

4 She will start in the Northeast region. »Look on the map and find the map scale. »What is it? »Figure out what tools you will need to measure the distance. »Talk with your table.

5 Maine to Boston »Mrs. Elliott has always wanted to tour the Northeast. Her journey begins in Augusta, Maine and her first stop will be Boston, Massachusetts. »Please measure the distance for this trip.

7 Great Job! Keep moving. »Boston was so lovely, but now Mrs. Elliott is on to Albany, New York. New York is an interesting state. »Please find the mileage from Boston to Albany.

9 Amazing! »Now Mrs. Elliott wants to go Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to see the Liberty Bell. Please figure out how far it is from Albany, NY to Philadelphia, PA.

10 Philadelphia, City of Brotherly Love »Philadelphia is a little over 200 miles. So about 210 miles.

11 New York City »Before Mrs. Elliott leaves the Northeast, she has to go to New York City to see a Broadway show. »Find the distance between Philadelphia and New York City.

12 On Broadway! »Mrs. Elliott feels like a star now! »The distance from Philadelphia to New York City is 100 miles! What a trip!

13 Wow! »The trip around the Northeast was exciting. Figure out the total mileage for this part of Mrs. Elliott’s journey.

15 Time to Move On… »The Northeast was full of big cities, industry, and cooler weather. But now Mrs. Elliott is craving some grits and fried chicken. She is going south, ya’ll!

16 Take a look at your map of the South. »Mrs. Elliott wants to visit the Washington Memorial and the White House. You know where she is going.. Washington, D.C. »From there she is visiting Atlanta, GA, home of the Coca Cola Museum. Find the distance from Washington, D.C. to Atlanta. Watch the scale on this map. It is different.

26 Time to take a break. »Mrs. Elliott is ready to settle in at the beach and take a break for awhile. »Please total the mileage for her trip across the southeast. She will rest better knowing how far she has traveled.

27 Lots of miles! »Her total trip across the South is 2200 miles. »She better make sure her car is in good shape before she starts again with her journey.
