1 TOUCH FOOTBALL: EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY ST JOHNS ANGLICAN COLLEGE

2 INTRODUCTION Aerobically and anaerobically demanding and intensive sport’s played such as Touch Football. Use of a GPS tracker system which was able to show many attributes of a player’s fitness. The tracker is worn in a vest with a heart rate monitor attached (we will have these to show around later (same as worn by NRL/ARL players). Data analysis shows components of fitness that need improvement in a game of touch football. Shows map of the players game, a summary of their session/game (including total distance covered, the minimum, maximum and average speed and heart rate they achieved, the duration of the session) and a graph that shows the subjects heart rate and speed at intervals during the game. Training programs are then are then designed to improve weaknesses.

3 THE GPS TRACKER SYSTEMS The GPS tracker assists in the process of data collection. This page displayed maximum heart rate, top speed and distance covered as well as the average speed and heart rate maintained throughout the testings. Heart rate monitor: This recorded the peak heart rate and hard it was working in comparison to sprints performed (Blue Lines).

4 DATA COLLECTION One of the most useful data collection elements was the GPS map showing: Where the player travelled in the game – great for positional analysis What percentage of time the player spent in certain sprint zones e.g. yellow lines are walking, purple is 80% sprint What distance sprints were – so a player might be having longer or shorter sprints – this can target what to train for The GPS tracker: Recorded the movements of the player.

5 FINDINGS Overall the GPS tracker was extremely helpful in determining areas of weakness in our game Much other useful data can be taken from the trackers such as: Heart rate zones (good for anaerobic threshold training) Impact zones – used for con tact zones to show how hard tackles are in contact sports Distance and speed Limits of the trackers include time to align to the satellites and having to run the outline of the filed to give the map a reference point
