2. Genre: – A way of categorizing films. For example, a film may be in the horror, comedy or science fiction genre. Conventions: – What we expect to see in a film of a certain genre. For example, you might expect to see lots of blood and scary things in a film in the horror genre

Eerie music Gang of outlaws A villain Spaceships A sheriff Laser guns A revolver Blood Futuristic costumes A dusty street A haunted house Robots Ghosts Aliens Science Fiction Westerns A hero Evil Horses Time travel Screaming A masked man Steam train Cowboy hat Outerspace Horror Arrange the words into three categories. For example, horses and cowboy hat would go together.

4. Film trailer activity Watch the three film trailers. Answer the questions for each trailer in your workbook. What is the film’s genre? How do you know? List the conventions used in the trailer. (E.g. blood, guns, bad guy etc.)
