The plan Nuclear power is… The history of nuclear energetics Benefits of nuclear energy Problems associated with nuclear energy Belarusian nuclear power plant project
3
Nuclear power is the use of sustained nuclear fission to generate heat and electricity. Nuclear power plants (NPPs) in 2012 provided about 5,7% of the world's energy and 13% of the world's electricity.
4
The history The first nuclear power station in the world. It was built in 1954, in Obninsk (USSR), about 110 km southwest of Moscow.
5
In 2013, there were 437 NPPs in the world, with a total capacity of 351 gigawatts
6
So what is nuclear energy? Risk?Or progress?
7
The benefits The benefits of nuclear energy
8
1 uranium fuel pellet (the size of the tip of your little finger) = = 17000 cubic feet of natural gas, 1780 pounds of coal, or 149 gallons of oil.
9
Let’s see the full list of dangers connected with nuclear power plants: Release of radioactive particles Radioactive isotopes pollution The threat of nuclear accidents The threat of nuclear terrorism
11
Nuclear Disasters 26.04.1986, Chernobyl 31 died immediately 350 died during clean-up 24000 received serious radiation exposures
13
Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster 11.03.2011 Japan
14
The Nuclear Power Plant in Belarus AES-2006" project The III generation VVER-1200 type reactors - "AES-2006" project
15
It is expected to cost up to $5 billion The 1 st reactor - by 2016-17 the 2 nd one - by 2018-2020. The first 2 reactors - around 2400 MW. 2 additional reactors - by 2025
