3 OBJECTIVE  This Project presents the technique for increasing the bandwidth of Rectangular Patch Antenna from 0.88GHz to 6.75GHz. This technique uses inset feed patch antenna with modified ground plane.  Final simulation shows that the frequency range is obtained from 3.5GHz to 10.04GHz.

4 INTRODUCTION  A Microstrip Patch Antenna consists of a radiating patch on one side of a dielectric substrate which has a ground plane on the other side Structure of a Microstrip Patch Antenna  For good antenna performance, a thick dielectric substrate having a low dielectric constant is desirable since this provides better efficiency, larger bandwidth and better radiation.  These are mostly used at microwave frequencies.

5 RECTANGULAR PATCH ANTENNA Width of rectangular Patch is 15.8mm and Length is 8mm. Total Size of this antenna with ground plane is 34 X 20 mm. The antenna is planar rectangular patch fed by microstrip line on the PCB (print circuit board), FR4 substrate with dielectric constant (εr) 4.5 and 1.6 mm of thickness (h).

6 RECTANGULAR PATCH WITH INSET FEED  We have fixed width(Wfi) of inset feed patch as 0.7mm and vary length of inset feed patch(Hfi) to 4mm, 5mm, 6mm.  Inset feed of 6mm has been selected( due to optimal return loss).  Width of microstrip is 2.8mm for impedance match with 50 ohm.

7 INSET FEED WITH RECTANGULAR SLOTS ON GROUND PLANE  We modify the ground plane with width of slot(Ws) 12mm and length of slot(Hs) 2mm, 4mm, 6mm.  In this case we obtain the optimum return loss when length of slot(Hs) is 6mm.

8 INSET L-SHAPED FEED  In Inset L-shaped feed, Length(Hfi) is varied with 2mm, 4mm, 6mm and Width(Wfi) of rectangular slot 0.7mm.  For 6mm width we get widen bandwidth.

9 INSET L-SHAPED WITH SLOT ON GROUND PLANE  For ground plane, fix the length(WL) to 12mm and vary width(HL) to 2mm, 4mm, 6mm.  2mm width is selected (For Optimum Matching)

10 INSET L-SHAPED WITH C-SLOT ON GROUND PLANE  We modify L-Slot to C-Slot on Ground Plane with width(Wc) 28mm and height(Hc) to 2mm, 3mm, 4mm.  2mm height is selected(for optimum matching)

13 ADVANTAGE OF MICROSTRIP PATCH ANTENNA  Low fabrication cost, hence can be manufactured in large quantities  Impedance matching is easy  Capable of dual and triple frequency operations  Mechanically robust when mounted on rigid surfaces  Light weight and low volume.
