2 Trades Description Act It is a criminal offence to ‘falsely describe’ goods or services. Care must be taken when: Wording the menu (e.g. frozen food cannot be called fresh) Describing menu items to customers Letting customers know about extra costs e.g. service charges Describing service conditions

3 Food Labelling Regulations 2006 The following information should be on a label: ‘use by’ or ‘best before’ date List of ingredients in weight order Name of manufacturer Address of manufacturer Name of food and brief description Weight (the ‘e’ symbol = average weight) Barcode (where & when manufactured and price) Special claims (suitable for vegetarians, low in fat) Method of storage, making & cooking
