proStoria DATA-AS-A-SERVICE FOR DEVOPS

Agenda: ProStoria presentation Contact data

What is proStoria proStoria is a an appliance that is deployed in your datacenter, plug the USB stick into your rack server. It runs on most commodity hardware out there. proStoria will deliver copies of multi- Terabyte productions databases to development teams, within a few minutes, instead of weeks and months

The Value Proposition Legacy modernization of work process counting for devops Streamlining and securing a more effective devops environment Securing on demand development and on time delivery Securing high quality application releases No “threat” for production environment BIG savings through minimization of cost for back up and hardware Securing customers market benefits through on demand products releases

Unleash Agility in Development Teams Development teams depend on IT operations to deliver environments to support application projects. Lack of timely, quality environments is a leading cause for late and low quality application releases. Getting the right data into the right environment, however, requires coordinated, interrupt-driven work across DBAs, sys admins, storage admins, and backup admins. By virtualizing and automating data delivery, proStoria provides unprecedented ease of environment setup, refresh, reset, branching, and sharing, eliminating key obstacles to achieving continuous integration and continuous delivery. Data as a Service enables Self-service access to high quality test data, along with fast data refresh, bookmarks, and rollback.

How does it work proStoria creates an initial full copy of the database. using native backup protocols and without impacting production operations. proStoria then stays in sync by collecting only data change continuously and efficiently to minimize data movement load and impact on the source. proStoria intelligently shares the blocks that represent the state of an application database. Since no data needs to be duplicated or moved, even copies of large, multi-TB databases are ready for use in minutes. 1. 2. 3. 7 Self-service data management proStoria automates all the steps in data delivery including remote mounting of data, resetting initialization parameters, and restarting target environments. This enabeles DevOps teams to REFRESH, BRANCH, ROLLBACK and SHARE DATA through a web control panel, without requiring time- consuming support from IT operations teams

Cool features Storage iSCSI FC Fiber-Channel Deduplication Compression Databases Microsoft SQL Oracle DB MySQL Data Masking Environment Windows Active Directoy

Agentless Rather than installing proprietary agents on remote machines, proStoria uses native protocols for remote management e.g. WMI, PowerShell, SSH. That means that proStoria needs some basic information about the machines and services you are going to use. In addition you need to have enabled remote PowerShell on Windows the machines you are going to use. And obviously have opened the appropriate ports in your firewall.

Credentials On the Credentials page, you must enter credentials with Administrative rights. These credential are used by proStoria to automate the management remote Machines and Services. The credentials are strongly encrypted and stored on the proStoria appliance.

Machines Machines are Servers. Servers are the virtual or physical hardware, where upon the Operating System is installed. They can be of either WIN, UNIX or Linux types.

DB Services DB services are the actual database software that is running on Machines, these are the actual "database servers“ i.e. servers that are serving a database service. They can be of either ORACLE, MSSQL or MySQL type services.

Databases Databases are the actual files that contains data. The database is attached to a DB Service that serves the content to database requests. They can be of either ORACLE, MSSQL or MySQL type.

User Security proStoria operates with two security groups: Users and Administrators On the setup page you can designate any Active Directory group to be either Users or Administrators for proStoria. This security model is primarily designed to prevent the Users group from performing actions that could degrade the integrity of data, and performance on production systems.

Jobs Jobs are a key workflow concept. Every time you want to perform database operations, your action is made into a job, and the job enters the Job queue. This enables the user to perform multiple simultaneous long running operations in a smooth workflow.

Modes of Operation proStoria has two modes of operation Out-of-Band Single Database Server Secondary Database Server In-Band

Modes of Operation Out-of-Band The simplest operational mode. It means that the live database does not reside on proStoria, and a Golden Copy of the database is required. The Golden Copy is a full copy of the live database i.e. the live database is automatically snapshotted and copied physically to proStoria.

Modes of Operation In-Band with Single database server In this operational mode, the live database resides on proStoria. The live database files are moved to a disk on proStoria, in a one-time procedure using MoveLive. This procedure requires no downtime, but can be time consuming, as it depends on the size of the live database and SAN throughput.

Modes of Operation In-Band with Secondary database server Also known as Log-Shipping, is the preferred option and do not require any downtime for the live database. The procedure is simple, use LiveMove to move the database from the Secondary Server to a proStoria disk. This is a one-time operation.
