June, 2016 Evaluation We have had 485 attendees to our workshop Dicapta has collected feedback from participants. Aside from rating the workshop for its presentation (organization, topic, knowledge, usefulness etc) space is provided for participants to write additional comments and suggestions. In addition to being commended in our effort to conduct the presentation in their native language, the next comment is inevitable “can you please do more workshops like this /would like to learn more about the use of captioning and video description for education”.

June, 2016 Findings Based on the feedback, it is evident that Spanish dominant parents are more receptive to in person workshops and more likely to engage in discussions regarding their children’s education. Efforts and research need to be conducted to find a similar strategy to reach teachers in the use of video description and captions. There is no sufficient evidence to suggest a continuance of utilizing the services, but we strongly suggest conducting follow up interviews to determine effectiveness of the strategy.

Discovery en la Escuela has successfully conducted teacher-training sessions on the use of educational TV in the classroom for more than 10 years.. June, 2016 Discovery en la Escuela: A guide to use audiovisual media in the classroom Target: Teachers of children with sensory disabilities Duration: 3 hours Target: Teachers Language: Spanish It was planned to conduct a webinar to share this information in a commun effort with the DCMP during the year two of the project but we need to start serving our main target (hispanic community).

The idea of this workshop came from a school for the blind in NJ. Basic concepts and hands-on on description for teachers to support school activities ( plays)
