1 Charlie’s Story Enter Teaching Notes

2 CHARLIE‘SCLASSCHARLIE‘SCLASS Charlie got on well with the other people in his class. He had always been happy in school, even though his best friend Matthew was in a different class.

3 Charlie and Matthew would play together after school each day, whenever their parents allowed them. Do you think Charlie was happy? NoYes

4 Charlie was very happy until one day Matthew didn’t want to play with him on the school yard at break time. Another boy had told Matthew he wasn’t allowed. Did Matthew do anything wrong? NoYes

5 Charlie was very happy as he had lots of friends in his class. Even though he wasn’t in Matthew’s class at school they still played together at home. Return to the story

6 Never do what a bully tells you to do. Stand up for yourself. Stand up straight Look the bully in the eyes Say ‘no’ in a firm voice Walk away without saying anything else Return to the story

7 Matthew made a bad decision because even though Matthew liked Charlie he did what the bully said. Later on at lunchtime Charlie and Matthew played together, until the bully saw. The bully wanted Matthew as his friend and told him to send Charlie away. YesNo Did Matthew send Charlie away?

8 Matthew was too afraid to stand up to the bully. As soon as the bully saw Charlie and Matthew together he would order Matthew to send Charlie away or call him nasty names. How did this make Charlie feel? How did this make Matthew feel?

10 Charlie was so upset by the bully’s behaviour that he told an adult. His teacher was very understanding and the Head teacher sorted the problem out straight away. The bully was told off and his parents were called to the school. He was in a lot of trouble! Charlie and Matthew remained friends but Matthew learned the importance of standing up to a bully.

11 Through the form of a story the children will know and understand: What bullying is. What makes a good friend. That we should all be responsible for our own actions. Objectives:
