4. Receiving Guidelines Train several employees on receiving procedures Write the date on cases MM/DD/YY Place in proper storage areas immediately Keep doors shut Inspect food packaging Damaged boxes Dented cans Signs of thawing Reject items if damaged or poor quality

5. Receiving Guidelines cont. Check expiration dates (not Julian dates) Remove any empty boxes Sweep and clean area Check delivery ticket with shopping list and delivered items

6. Julian Date Code Ever see expiration date like 22314 and think it’s expired? Well it’s not usually Julian date code gives each day a 3-digit number from 001 for Jan 1 st to 365 for Dec 31 st. The last digit or two digits represents the year So what is the expiration date for 22314? August 11, 2014 because that is the 223 rd day of the year!
