Consequences If a student chooses to break the rules, these will be the consequences. First Time: verbal warning Second Time: verbal warning Third Time: short break Continued inappropriate behavior will result in loss of privileges, such as Friday free time. Students who behave appropriately will be positively recognized with praise and special privileges. **Behavior such as BULLYING will result in a visit to the principal’s office and all procedures will follow the BULLY LAW.**

Homework Procedures  Homework is posted in the classroom. Materials must be out on desks before teachers will sign assignment pads and students can pack up.  Students will have a reading log nightly.  Students will also have a Math Home Link page that is connected with the lesson from earlier that day.  Homework will be checked and parents will be contacted upon many incomplete assignments.  Children will stay in and complete missed homework at recess. They will also miss part of Friday Free Time.

Why do I assign homework?  Reinforces skills taught in class  Prepares for upcoming lessons  Helps me identify where students need additional instruction  Teaches responsibility and develops study habits

Math Please visit www.everydaymath.com to gain a clear understanding of how our Math Curriculum works! Please visit www.everydaymath.com to gain a clear understanding of how our Math Curriculum works!  There will be a daily Math lesson, followed by written work in your child’s Math Journal. Each night (Monday-Thursday) your child will complete a page in his or her Home Links book. This assignment will reinforce the Math skills learned in class earlier that day. Your child will also practice skills through Math games and the use of hands-on manipulatives in class.  Your child will receive a username and password to access daily math activities online that can be used at home. He or she will bring home a review packet before each unit assessment, approximately once per month, which is to be signed and returned to me. Please be sure to read the Everyday Math Family Letter to accompany each unit, which can be accessed online. This will give you an understanding of the Math strategies and concepts your child is learning in class as well as activities you can practice at home to reinforce these skills.

Reader’s Workshop  Your child will learn a variety of reading skills and practices this year through mini-lessons, shared reading, mentor texts, independent reading, and reading groups. Our current unit of study focuses on the routines of Reader’s Workshop, as well as foundational reading skills such as: Choosing a “Just Right Book”, Making connections while we read, Making sense of new vocabulary, and Reading comprehension.  We will cover the main genres of Fiction and Nonfiction, as well as content- related reading to enrich our Science and Social Studies curriculum.
