Non- uniform day/ Valentines Party at Youth Club Class 3 have been exploring angles this week. Estimating, calculating and measuring them. They are learning the mathematical names for different sized angles and using this knowledge to help them to check their measuring. In their English work, they have been writing persuasively. Organising arguments into key ideas which are separated into paragraphs helps to ensure the writing makes sense. In ICT, we have used the log-it explorers to decide which type of curtain is the best for blocking sunlight. What a busy week! This week we have been finishing our work on the 3 Billy Goats Gruff. When Big Billy Goat butted the Troll into the water he floated away down the river. We thought that he would like a new bridge to live under so we each designed one for him. We don’t know which one he would choose - some were made from white marble, some had pink towers, some were beautiful shapes and some were multicoloured! Which one would you choose? We have been measuring this week. We measured our bodies and made waist coats. We even measured and covered baked-bean tins! We are still enjoying our class novel- Skellig. Attendance better this week- 92%!!!

2 Sing Up! We have had very little money back yet to fund the cost of transport to the Whitehaven Civic Hall. We are asking for £2 towards transport for every member of Key Stage Two. If we do not have enough funds, we will have to take money from other sources! If you would like us to order you a ticket for the event, these are £3 each. Please book through Mrs Toman before February 7 th. Rising Stars Cash for kids Our school has been chosen by CFM to be part of their ‘rising stars’ charity for 2012. We have been given £50 and are expected to use it to generate money for the ‘cash for kids’ charity. We will be holding a number of fundraising events over the next month and a half. The school that raises the most money in Cumbria will get a famous pop star to perform at their school! Our first event is a non-uniform day next Friday 10 th February. We are asking the children to donate a minimum of £1 in order to wear their own clothing. Secondly we will be having a sale of 2 nd hand cds, dvds and computer games. If you have any that you don’t want anymore please donate them to school. We shall be selling them back to you after half term. Parental Feedback A Big Thank you to those families who completed the Spring questionnaire. The results made for pleasant reading, since all parents were either very happy or happy with every aspect of school life. The leadership of the school and the welcoming atmosphere were the things that were seen as strengths. Thank you again. Only two parents turned up for our in-depth meetings. I hope that in the future more of you are able to come and have your say as it is my hope that we will be able to serve you as best as we can. A selection of pupils from every year group have also taken part in a survey of their views. Although overwhelmingly positive, these pupils have given us things to think about for the future. Mrs Steele and the School Council will be looking at these in detail over the coming term.
