3 CAUSES OF MYOCARDITIS RNA-viruses: Picorna (Coxsackie A, B, Echo, Polio), Paramyxo (Measles, Mumps), HCV, Toga (Dengue Fever, Yellow Fever, Rubella) DNA-viruses: adenoviruses, parvovirus B19, herpesviruses (herpesvirus-6, Cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr, Varicella), HIV 15-20% of virus-related myocarditis is caused by enteroviruses 3-6% - incidence of myocarditis in viral infections Viruses are detected in >70% of patients with clinically suspected myocarditis and dilated cardiomyopathy
