2 Early Life Born August 31, 1913 She was the only child Grew up in Brooklyn, New York Her father owned a wholesale knitwear business so she helped out there for some time Dropped out of high school to work for portrait photographer J. Florian Mitchell She became interested in photography and bought a used camera and started to photograph on the streets of New York

3 Technique She didn’t have a certain technique in her photographs, she was keen to develop her own style and techniques. Although, a simple technique was she took photos of random people/things. She didn’t intend to make her pictures stand out the way they do.

5 Known For Helen Levitt is known for New York street photography She mainly focused on busy/working people She photographed a lot of children as well Nobody really knew about Helen Levitt’s photographs until they were published at the Museum Of Modern Art in 1943, yet not a lot of people acknowledged her work New York 1940 (Baby Carriage) 14x11 silver print

7 Later On In Life… Helen Levitt continued to do what she enjoyed and had a passion for, during her years in the photography world she stayed true to herself and her art. A little bit later, she was discovered and people loved her work. She really didn’t care about fame or the money, she only cared about her camera and her pictures. She is a 2008 recipient of the Francis Greenburger award for excellence in the arts. Helen Levitt died on March 29,2009.
