3 You are a business visitor if you plan to visit Canada temporarily to: –Look for ways to grow your business –Invest –Advance your business relationships Business Visitors

4 As a business visitor, you must show that : –You plan to stay for less than six months –You do not plan to enter the Canadian labour market –Your main place of business, and source of income and profits, is outside Canada Business Visitors

5 As a business visitor, you meet Canada’s basic entry requirements: –have a valid passport –have enough money –plan to leave Canada Business Visitors

6 Typical business visitor activities include: –buying goods or services for a foreign business –taking orders for goods or services –going to meetings, conferences, or trade fairs –giving after-sales service –being trained by a Canadian company –training employees of a Canadian branch of a foreign company If you are a business visitor, you will need to apply for an eTA or a visa to come to Canada. 7 As of 15 March 2016, Business Visitors will need: ELECTRONIC TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION (eTA) Citizens from countries who do not require a visa to enter Canada will need to obtain an eTA before flying to Canada (except citizens of the United States). To obtain an eTA you must have a –valid passport –a credit card –an email address The eTA validity is dependent on the passport with a maximum validity of 5 years. www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/eta-start.asp Business Visitors

8 Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada CANNOT obtain an eTA As of 30 September 2016: Canadian Citizens will require a valid Canadian Passport to travel to Canada Permanent Residents of Canada will require a valid PR Card or PR Travel Document Dual Polish-Canadian Citizens will not be able to obtain an eTA in their Polish Passports Processing time for passport applications submitted outside Canada: 20 business days Avoid any travel delays – apply now! http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/passport/ Canadian Dual Citizens and eTA

11 Your employer in Canada may need to get a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to hire you –LMIA is a document that an employer in Canada must usually get before hiring a foreign worker –A positive LMIA will show that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job and that no Canadian worker can do the job Your proposed employer must contact Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to obtain an LMIAEmployment and Social Development Canada If your proposed employer is located in Quebec, the foreign worker must also obtain a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ) –CAQ is issued by Quebec’s Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion (MIDI) Temporary Foreign Worker Program

12 Exemptions from a Labour Market Impact Assessment –Workers covered under International Free Trade Agreements This group can include: professionals, traders, investors –Inter-Company Transferees Workers who have been transferred to their company’s Canadian operations – Executives, Senior managers, Specialized knowledge workers Employers submit a Job Offer through CIC’s Employer PortalEmployer Portal –After you submit a job offer of employment through the Employer Portal, you will receive an Offer ID Number –You must provide this Offer ID Number to the temporary worker you plan to hire or are continuing to employ Temporary Foreign Worker Program

13 Other Exemptions You do not have to submit an LMIA or an Offer ID Number or a CAQ if you are applying for an Open Work Permit Your spouse or common-law partner and your dependent children may apply to come to Canada with you, and, if they wish, apply for a study permit or an Open Work Permit International Experience Canada (IEC), a youth mobility program for those between 18-35 years old Temporary Foreign Worker Program

14 IEC has three categories: 1.Working Holiday: Open work permit that allows youth to work for any employer, anywhere in the host country 2.International Co-op (Internship) (students only - internships): Employer-specific work permit that allows students to gain targeted work experience related to program of study 3.Young Professionals (career development): Employer-specific work permit that allows youth to gain targeted experience related to profession or program of study IEC: One program with many opportunities 14

15 Permanent Resident Skilled Foreign Workers Express Entry – a new electronic application system Using the online Express Entry portal, create a profile with details about: –Age –Years of professional experience –Knowledge of official languages –Education credentials Candidates will be ranked in a pool. CIC will issue invitations to candidates from the pool to apply for permanent residence

16 Permanent Resident Skilled Foreign Workers Online Job Bank registration Will complete an Express Entry profile Potential employer/employee match May increase an applicant’s ranking in the pool Job Bank will match Canadian employers with applicants for free

18 Permanent Resident Skilled Foreign Workers Invitation to Apply (ITA) Selection of highest ranking applicants according to their qualifications and experience Have a valid job offer from Canadian employer Are nominated by a Province or Territory Candidates will receive an Invitation to Apply by e-mail to submit an immigration application

19 Start Up Visa Program Canada's Start-Up Visa Program is the first of its kind in the world. With the Start-Up Visa, Canada is targeting a new type of immigrant entrepreneur who has the potential to build innovative companies that can compete on a global scale and create jobs. To apply for a start-up visa, your business idea or venture must obtain the support of one of the designated organizations which includes venture funds, angel investor groups and business incubators. To be eligible for the start-up visa, you must secure a minimum investment of $200,000 from a venture fund, $75,000 from an angel investor group or be accepted to a designated incubator program. A list of designated organizations is available on our website at: www.cic.gc.ca

20 Immigrant Investor Venture Capital Pilot Program You must have a personal net worth of $10 million or more. Your net worth must have been acquired through lawful, private sector business or investment activities. You must be willing and able to make an at-risk investment of $2 million in the Immigrant Investor Venture Capital (IIVC) Fund for approximately 15 years.
