On the Kelvin scale, absolute zero is the temperature 0 K. Although temperatures of approximate 0.0001 K have been produced in laboratories, absolute zero has never been attained. In fact, evidence suggests that absolute zero cannot be attained. How did scientists determine that 0 K is the “lower limit” of the temperature of matter? What is absolute zero on the Celsius scale?

The determination of absolute zero stems from the work of the French physicist Jacques Charles (1746 – 1832). He discover the volume of gas at a constant pressure increases linearly with the temperature of the gas. The table shows this relationship. The volume V is measured in liters and the temperature T is measured in degrees Celsius. T-40-20020406080 V19.148220.790822.433424.076025.718627.361229.0038

Properties of Continuity

The following types of functions are continuous at every point in their domains.

By using these properties, you can see that each of the following functions are continuous at every element of its domain.

Continuity of a Composite Function

Describe the interval(s) on which each function is continuous.
