The Electromagnetic Spectrum & Components of Space Do Now-Week of February 29-March 4

Do Now 2/29/16 Different types of radiation on the spectrum have different amounts of energy. Study the illustration of the electromagnetic spectrum then answer the questions. 1.) Describe the relationship between the wavelength and the amount of energy. 2.) Compare and contrast the radio waves and the gamma rays.

Do Now 3/1/-3/2/16  Observe the pictures and use the word bank to identify the type of galaxy You may not use all of the words.. Spiral galaxy Irregular galaxy elliptical galaxy barred galaxy 1. 2. 3. 4.

Do Now – 3/3/16  Use the word bank to match the correct word with the definition. 1. All space and matter space contains. Everything that exists in space. 2. A useful tool for studying the nature of stars such as the brightness and temperature. 3.A self-luminous celestial body consisting of a mass of gas held together by its own gravity. 4.The intensity of light from a celestial body. 5.A large grouping of stars, moons, and planets in space. Nebula Universe H-R diagram Star Galaxy Luminosity/brightness Temperature Pre-AP- Pick up weather projects this week!

Do Now 3/4/16  Arrange the following celestial bodies from largest to smallest 1.Galaxy 2.Galaxy cluster 3.Solar system 4.Universe 5.Earth 6.Jupiter 7.Moon 8.Sun Reminder: Pre-AP- pick up your weather Projects today!

Do Now Practice  Scientists detected radio waves from a star. 1. What might this information tell them about the star? 2. Which wave of the electromagnetic spectrum has the longest wavelength? Shortest? Which wave has the most energy? least energy? A. B. C.C. D.
