14. CCLAPPS Character-In this picture the brain is depicted in to two parts: the left and the right. The left side is a lot more organized than the right side. For example, the lines on the brain are thin which presents that the left brain is very exact because there is only one type of line with no variety. As it is said in the description, “I am a scientist. A mathematician”, the left brain is used for numbers. Numbers are the most exact way one can possibly represent something. The code in the background on the left side also gives an exact statement. The code gives commands and arguments in a certain way that can be interpreted in only one way. On the left side of the brain, the font is even in an accurate manner. Where it says “Left”, it is typed in a very standard font with nothing unusual about it. Even where it says “brain”, the ends of the letters don’t have any tips, its just another standard way to write letters. This supports the idea of organized and exact thinking in the left brain. In contrast, the right side of the brain is for creative thinking with many possibilities. The strokes aren’t organized; some parts have thick strokes, some have thin, and at some places there are splatters while at others their aren’t. Unlike the code on the left, there is no sign of organization. The font on the right side of the brain further suggests this point. Where it says “Right” it is written in cursive which can be written in many different ways depending on the person’s style. Unlike the typed font on the left, there is less organization. Where it says “brain”, there are tips on the end of each letter illustrating the creativity. Towards the top right corner, there is a doodle of a bicycle which represents imagination because this isn’t something that is actually outside of the brain, its just one’s imagination. The bike is pointed away from the brain conveying that imagination can “ride” on or go on forever. Similarly, the doodle of a stairway suggests the same idea because a stairs is something that one can get away in. One thing that is unique of these stairs is they are upside down and an upside down stairway isn’t something that one would see in their lives. This suggests that not only can imagination endlessly continue, but it also doesn’t have to be real. The doodle on the bottom right is something that is not seen in real life. It looks to be a bird with one eye which further supports that imagination doesn’t have to make sense. The description of the right brain states, “The feeling of sand beneath bare feet”; this uses imagery to depict the senses. Imagery creates an “image” in one’s head. It is suggested that the right brain is used to create images. In conclusion, the creator conveys through the character that the left brain is used for exact things, such as numbers, while the right brain is used for creative things, such as art. Color - Through the color of the image, the creator further suggests that the left brain is for more exact things while the right brain is for creative things. The left side of the brain has some organization because the only colors used is black and white. However, there are some orange splats that are overflowing from the right side onto the left which illustrate that there is a little bit of creative thinking on the left side. On the flip side, the right brain is illustrated as completely creative because of the random splatters all over the place. The splatters aren’t placed exactly where the creator wants it to be, it just comes up spontaneously. Also, the colors have more variety because there are blends of the three primary colors unlike the left. The colors give a feeling of happiness because the colors are bright. The 4 big strokes from the right brain are purple, red, orange, and green. Red and orange are warm colors suggesting happiness. Green and purple are cool colors, however, they are relatively brighter compared to a normal green and purple. The little bit of blue (representing sadness) is insignificant, because it is in the top right corner away from the brain and in the bottom, in the shadows. However, while the blue is insignificant compared to most of the colors, it is still there demonstrating that there is a little bit of sadness in the right brain. All in all, the right brain has emotions in contrast to the left brain.

15. CCLAPPS continued… Light: The brain as a whole is suggested as important in both parts. This can be seen because the brain is strongly illuminated on both sides. The creator conveys that both sides of the brain are capable of doing amazing things, and neither side is more capable than the other. As a whole, the brain is lit up a lot demonstrating that the brain is an amazing thing. However, there is a little bit of shadows on at the bottom. This suggests that while the brain is a powerful thing, but it still has some flaws. Angle: The angle that this image is from is the top. The viewer can see the whole thing, and nothing is hidden. The angle is completely even and nothing is appeared to be closer or farther. This suggests that both sides of the brain are equally important. Proportion: The brain is a big part of the image demonstrating that it is a powerful thing. The two parts of the brain are split exactly in half. This implies that both parts are equal. Through the light, angle, and proportion, the creator underscores that both parts of the brain are equally capable to do complex things. Placement: The strokes on the right side of the brain are cropped out at the end. The stroke gets thinner and thinner as it approaches the outskirts of the image. It is illustrated that the stroke never ends because it gets thinner but never actually stops. These represent imagination, which can go on forever. On the left side, there is code which represents human logical thinking. This is also never ending because the end is cropped out of the image. The creator chose to crop out these things to convey that the human brain can advance in thinking forever; there isn’t a limit to how far the brain can go. Setting: If one looks closely into the image, it can be seen that the background of the image is on a canvas. A canvas is something that one creates things on. Both sides of the brain can be used to create things. For example, the left side can be used to create computer programs that carry out operations, and the right side can be used to create aesthetically pleasing art.
