2. Whose right? Historians do not agree about how successful the League was in the 1920s. There is no right or wrong answer, as long as you use evidence to back your argument up. However, in contrast they almost all agree that in the 1930s the League of Nations was a failure. So, what happened in the 1930s?

3. Economics and the League In the late 1920s there had been a boom in world trade. The economies of the European countries were once again recovering. Why would this help reduce international tension? Trading relationships reduced tension. When countries were trading with one another they were less likely to go to war. 7. Impact on Europe All of Europe was hit hard by the Wall Street Crash and the depression that followed. The boom was over, trading reduced and companies went bust. Britain, Germany and France suffered high unemployment as a result.

8. Why the knock on effect? Everybody traded with the USA, when the crash hit this stopped. The USA also loaned large sums of money to help Europe recover from the effects of the First World War. This now stopped and the USA wanted its money back.
