3. KWL CHART Directions: 1.Working in groups of four at your pod, discuss your prior knowledge of the moon. 2.Collaborate with your group and come up with a list of things you would like to learn about the moon. Toward the end of our unit, we will complete the charts and have a gallery walk!

4. GRAVITY AND MOTION The strength of the force of gravity between two objects depends on two factors: the masses of the objects and the distance between them. If mass increases, force also increases. If distance increases, force decreases. Two factors --inertia and gravity-- combine to keep Earth in orbit around the sun and the moon in orbit around Earth.

5. Phases of the Moon The moon moves through space in two ways- revolving around Earth and rotating on its own axis. Changing relative positions of the moon, earth, and sun cause the phases of the moon, eclipse, and tides!

6. DID YOU KNOW… The Moon is in synchronous rotation with Earth meaning the same side is always facing the Earth. The rise and fall of the tides on Earth is caused by the Moon The Moon has quakes caused by the gravitational pull of the Earth. The moon goes through 8 phases- can you name them?
