Motor vehicle accidents can cause an individual to sustain high medical costs and suffer permanent adverse effects, both personally and professionally, on their daily lives and income earning capabilities.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among people aged 5 to 34 in the U.S. More than 2.3 million adult drivers and passengers were treated in emergency departments as the result of being injured in motor vehicle crashes. A car accident can occur due to number of reasons.

Distracted Driving A distracted driver is a motorist that diverts his or her attention from the road, usually to talk on a cell phone, send a text message or eat food.

Speeding Excess and inappropriate speed are responsible for a high proportion of the mortality and morbidity that result from road crashes.

Drunk Driving Driving under the influence of alcohol causes car accidents every day, even when they are one the top causes that can be avoided.

Defective Vehicles If your accident was caused by a defective car part, the vehicle’s manufacturer should be held responsible.

Weather Conditions Weather conditions such as rain, snow, sleet, hail, fog, etc., can affect the safety of roads and limit a driver’s visibility and control, causing accidents. Avoid car accidents by using your head lights — and never your high beams — when driving in the fog.

Tailgating Many fatal car accidents have occurred when a motorist dangerously tailgated another driver at high speeds. You can prevent these car accidents by giving the car in front of you a one-car-length buffer for every 10 mph you drive.

Learner and Inexperienced Drivers These type of drivers are more likely to crash due to 'error or reaction' factors than drivers between 30 and 70. Car drivers under 25 have 'exceeding the speed limit', 'travelling too fast for the conditions' and 'learner/inexperienced' recorded more frequently than drivers over the age of 25.

Roadways Missing road signs, malfunctioning traffic signals, or debris that was not cleared from the road can all contribute to a dangerous car accident.
