CITY OF MATLOSANA DEPARTMENT CIVIL ENGINEERING PROGRESS ON NUMBER OF BUCKETS REMOVED 2005/06, 2006/07 COMMENTS ▪ The only night soil buckets removed during the 2005/06 and 2006/07 financial years were those eliminated by the completion of subsidy housing. ▪ The current backlog is therefore 14 402 buckets which is left for the 2007/08▪▪ financial year. ▪ All infrastructure to support waterborne sewerage will be completed or in such a stage that the additional water demand and/or sewer effluent can be handled. ▪ During the 2007/08 financial year an amount of R85 547 000 is earmarked for bucket eradication, and if 2 500 subsidy houses are built there will be a surplus of R1 766 92O. 16

17. ▪ Council is in process of appointing consulting engineers for the construction of the toilets. Appointment has been delayed due to procedural matters and same is to be concluded by mid May 2007. ▪ The construction is envisaged to commence the beginning of July with the strong possibility of the municipality assuming the responsibility of undertaking part of the construction itself.. The idea therefore is to engage more than one firm of consultants including the municipality for supervision and a number of contractors. 17
