8 HOW HAS THE COE PROCESS CONTRIBUTED TO ADDRESSING THE CHALLENGES? Gender specific programmes(Mlatho & Mai Pandale) Budgets(special funds for reporters to travel to cover gender related stories) Monthly evaluation on progress and calculation of stories that have been covered. 9 HOW IS THE MEDIA HOUSE CONTRIBUTING TOWARDS ACHIEVING THE 28 TARGETS OF THE SADC PROTOCOL? GENDER EQUALITY BY 2015, YES WE MUST! PROTOCOL TARGETMEDIA ACTIONS Develop strategic partnerships and networking opportunities. Educating the general public about equity when it comes to gender issues Build linkages between the media and local government work on the ground as part of the broader objective of gender responsive governance and accountability, Creating more programmes on gender thereby creating constructive debates on gender issues Strengthen the gender movement from local to national to regional to international level. Improving coverage that would include gender related issues

10 IMPACT impact. It has given equal platform for both male and female sources. motivated females to take part in various activities at the work place. Changed women's mind set who thought there are specific roles for men only. Feed back (There’s more interaction on gender programmes via social networking site e.g Facebook & Twitter plus Phone in programmes.) 12 CHALLENGES TO GENDER MAINSTREAMING Culture in a family set up -female journalists are reluctant to cover night and early morning functions saying they need to look after their families. Female reporters are not aggressive. some media bosses use female jouranalists as sex objects GENDER EQUALITY BY 2015, YES WE MUST!
