2 KM3NeT WPF/L 06072010-NIKHEF- MECABAR 2 1 - Context Some fundamentals hypothesis : - Reliability of DU (10 years) and deployment - crew safety - Compactness DU - Storey length around 6 m, net buoyancy for equipped storey 300 N - The distance between storey is 40m - The design of DU and deployment concept is totally imbricated In the TDR, there are three options for the detection unit structure : The bar detection unit The string detection unit The triangle detection unit The mecabar project is based on ‘a bar unit concept’ Design of TDR

11 KM3NeT WPF/L 06072010-NIKHEF- MECABAR 11 3.1) Qualification phase one 3 – Qualification plan and objectives Objectives : four successful deployment (DU contains 4 equipped storeys, 2 separators, 1 base) shallow water between 250 m and 350 m Immersion of DU in the water : OK Release of the deployment tools on the seabed : OK Unfurling command and validation of the bottom unfurling ligne sous tension : OK Instrumented line (LNS instrumentation)

13 KM3NeT WPF/L 06072010-NIKHEF- MECABAR 13 5 - Conclusion 4 – Next steps and conclusions Thank your very much for your attention Status : @ Drawings of all the components of storey have been done and send to subcontractors for manufacturing. @ The studies of anchor is almost finished : there is an interface work between the release system, deployment tools and the storey. @ Deployment and recovery procedure has been done for the first qualification test Next steps : @ Go on all the design aspect of Φ 1, 2, 3 @ Work on the attachment of electronics vessel on the storey Conclusions : The qualification phase 1, 2, 3 is very interesting because from the ‘knowledge of the line (buoyancy, center of gravity, hydrodynamics calculation). It will be possible to make comparaison between test / calculations. Moreover, it will allow the validation of mechanical fonction (release, indexing, …).
