2 2 Dept Overview 15Oct08 UNCLAS, Not For Distribution SSC Pacific…on Point and at the Center of C4ISR Robotic Systems Pool (RSP) Developers Users TechnologyFeedback World Trade CenterIraq/Afghanistan iRobot Inuktun Foster-Miller SSC San Diego Utah State University Provides government agencies at all levels with the opportunity to evaluate and experiment with mobile robots in their own unique operational domains. Users can make appropriate acquisitions of robots based on their experience. Robot Developers benefit from the users feedback and recommendations, enabling them to improve their designs and better meet the emerging needs. Accelerates the technological advance of US military forces and law enforcement by making the latest robotic technology available through no cost loans. 3 3 Dept Overview 15Oct08 UNCLAS, Not For Distribution SSC Pacific…on Point and at the Center of C4ISR Mobile Robotics Knowledge Base (MRKB) Development History  Small Robot Technology Database launched April 1999.  Mobile Robot Technology Knowledge Base internal launch Oct 2001, initial public launch Dec 2001.  Currently undergoing major upgrade. Operational Relevance  Provides robotic system developers, program managers, and customers with a web-accessible, centralized knowledge resource for mobile robot components, subsystems, mission payloads, and platforms.  Minimize redundant product research efforts, maximize efficiency and responsiveness.  Facilitates technology transfer.  Supports JRP small robot pool. http://robot.spawar.navy.mil

4 4 Dept Overview 15Oct08 UNCLAS, Not For Distribution SSC Pacific…on Point and at the Center of C4ISR Executing a Loan Limited Purpose Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (LPCRADA) Executed between SSC-Pacific and requesting agency Identifies equipment and planned use Prescribes feedback to be provided Establishes basic responsibilities for support, care, and return of equipment Investigating high level LPCRADA’s supplemented by individual loan agreements to expedite process

5 5 Dept Overview 15Oct08 UNCLAS, Not For Distribution SSC Pacific…on Point and at the Center of C4ISR Providing the Latest Technology Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADA) – Focuses on platform and core enabling technologies – Reflects convergence of many unmanned systems technologies across the domains – Manufacturers provide latest technologies to the robotic systems pool in exchange for customer evaluation and feedback Allows manufacturers to stay current with customer capability needs Offers customers “try before you buy” opportunity –Complements Mentor Protégé, SBIR, CCAT, 1401, and other technology transition efforts
