WINE REGIONS A brand with a range of wines from the main regions of Portugal.

It is a region of not very steep relief that includes a great variety of micro climates and types of soils. The wines produced here show an excellent and increasing quality that breaks a little with the characteristics of the past. They are full bodied and with a strong character. : THE ORIGIN

Located in the southern region of the country, the Alentejo is a region mainly flat, showing some relief, not very high, but that influences it in a significant way. It is characterized by edaphoclimatic conditions extremely Mediterranean showing, however, several areas with a continental micro climate. Vine planting in this region goes back to the Roman period. : THE ORIGIN

The Dão Demarcated Region was established in 1908 and is located in the central area of Northern Portugal. It is surrounded by the Caramulo, Buçaco and Estrela Mountains that build an important barrier to the humid winds coming from the coast line and the wild winds coming from mainland. From the perfect union between tradition and modernity are born quality wines and with typical characteristics. : THE ORIGIN

Verde Wine is an Appellation of Demarcated Origin for the wines coming from North western Portugal. The «Verde» designation is connected to the edaphoclimatic characteristics of the region, in which the wines produced, have a concentration of malic acid higher to what is usual to find in other regions of Portugal. The result is light, fresh, aromatic and medium alcohol content wines compared to what is usual in other regions of Portugal. : THE ORIGIN

GRAPE VARIETALS 13

In days gone by Touriga Nacional was the dominant variety in the Dão region, responsible almost single-handedly for the fame of Dão wines. Nowadays it is one of the most popular varieties in the Douro and is considered one of Portugal’s finest grapes. Touriga Nacional yields inky, full-bodied, powerful wines with exceptional aromas. It frequently shows blackberry, blueberry, rock rose and rosemary notes. TOURIGA-NACIONAL The most widely-grown red grape variety in Portugal. It is powerful and intense reds for lengthy cellaring. It has adapted best to the Setubal Peninsula, where it makes meaty and intense wines with aromas of red berries and forest flowers that integrate well with the wood of French oak. CASTELÃO Aragonês or Tinta Roriz is a very fine variety of extraordinary quality. This grape has also been grown for centuries in the Alentejo, but under the name of Aragonês. In good years it produces full-bodied, inky and highly aromatic wines. The grape has fine and delicate aromas of pepper and berries. Aragonês has high yields and is indispensable in the blend of a good Port. Varietal red wines are also showing good results, particularly in the Dão region. ARAGONÊS OR TINTA RORIZ This is a Dão grape by origin, but it has spread successfully southwards into the Alentejo, Ribatejo/Tejo and Palmela regions because of its ability to retain good acidity even in hot climates. The wines are rich in colour with firm but ripe tannins and a good balance of tannins, alcohol, acidity and attractive, berry fruit, reminiscent in particular of blackberries and ripe stawberries. The vines are vigorous, requiring more attention than many other varieties to keep the vegetation under control, and they are prone to attack by oidium and botrytis. ALFROCHEIRO : PORTUGUESE GRAPE VARIETALS Portugal has a vast amount of native varieties that enables to produce a wide variety of wines with very different personalities

Big robust and full-bodied wines with lots of fruit, some pepper, usually spicy, sometimes powerful and alcoholic. Wines from early-ripening grapes are accessible when young, smooth and inviting with good cellaring potential. Varietal Syrah wines are made but they are few in number, usually being used in small amounts in many of the Alentejo's most emblematic wines. SYRAH One of the most widespread Portuguese grape varieties. It shows best, however, in hot, dry and very bright areas, tailor-made, in fact, for the Alentejo. It is not easy to grow, however, having irregular yields and prone to disastrous moulds. But in good years Trincadeira will produce great wines. It has excellent acidity, soft tannins and abundant, intense aromas of plum and blackberry, producing elegant and balanced wines. A Trincadeira blend with Aragonês in the Alentejo or Touriga Nacional in the Douro will result in top quality wines. TRINCADEIRA It is one of the world's very few colouring grapes, able to provide concentrated, deeply coloured wines, a feature that has earned it the nickname "Writing Ink". The aromas it evokes are of forest berries, cocoa, olives and vegetal notes. Alicante Bouschet is assuredly our most Portuguese non-Portuguese grape variety. ALICANTE BOUSCHET : PORTUGUESE GRAPE VARIETALS

One of Portugal’s oldest indigenous varieties, with a long tradition in the Bucelas region, it has now spread to most wine regions given its adaptability to different terrains and climates. Arinto, known as Pedernã in Vinho Verde, holds good acidity as one of its key features combined with structure and a velvety feel. Its aroma is relatively discreet, whose strongest notes are mineral, with green apple and lemon. Arinto yields wines that evolve very well in bottle, acquiring elegance and complexity. ARINTO Grown mainly in the upper Minho region along the River Lima valley, Loureiro is a very old grape variety yet is largely responsible for the success of white vinho verde in recent years. Aromatically exuberant, Loureiro (along with Moscatel) is considered the most perfumed of Portuguese grapes, evoking bay leaf, lime tree, acacia, orange and peach. As with Alvarinho, Loureiro is a grape of great typicity, producing varietal wines as well as in blends. In blends with other regional grapes, its exceptional aromatic qualities construct some of the best white wines in Portugal. LOUREIRO High quality white grape variety, recommended for almost the entire Demarcated Region, except for the Basto and Amarante sub-regions and the Baião, Cinfães and Resende areas. With a culture area in great expansion it came originally from the Monção sub-region. Productive, this grape variety produces wines with a delicate and distinctive aroma, flavourous, but sometimes unbalanced. TRAJADURA : PORTUGUESE GRAPE VARIETALS
