PHYSICS BINGO! TO HELP REVIEW SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE

HOW TO PLAY: Place 24 of the vocabulary words listed on your table onto your bingo sheets! When you hear the definition or description of your word, place a marker on that word. When you have 5 in a row (or four corners) shout “BINGO!” for your prize

KINETIC ENERGY Energy of a moving object

NUCLEAR ENERGY Energy that comes from the splitting of an atom’s nucleus

NEWTON’S 2 ND LAW -F = MxA -An object’s acceleration depends on the force exerted on it and the mass of the object.

NEWTON’S 1 ST LAW -Law of inertia -An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

MOTION When an object changes position over time.

ELECTRICAL FORCE The force that causes oppositely charged materials to attract each other and similarly charged materials to repel each other.

ELECTRICAL ENERGY The energy of moving electrons.

POTENTIAL ENERGY Energy of a non-moving object.

ENERGY CONVERSIONS A change of one form of energy to another form of energy.

CHEMICAL ENERGY Energy of a compound that changes as its atoms rearrange.

OBJECTS AT REST -A table not being touched. -A telephone on top of a counter. -A parked car. -An object with balanced forces acting upon it.

BUOYANT FORCE The directional force exerted upward by a liquid on a submerged body.

CONTACT FORCE -The act of physically touching to create a push or pull -One of two types of forces.

BALANCED FORCE -zero net force -When these forces are exerted on an object, there is no movement OR when these forces act on an object, they stay at a constant speed in the same direction. - No change in a moving object. -A water bottle on the table.

OBJECTS IN MOTION -Somebody pushing a shopping cart. -A shortstop diving for a line drive. -A dancer in the middle of their dance. -Unbalanced forces acting upon an object.

NEWTON’S 3 RD LAW -Law of opposites -Action – Reaction -For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

POTENTIAL TO KINETIC -An energy conversion that occurs when a moving object comes to a stop. -A golf ball on a tee before a drive. -A baseball on a tee ball tee. -A car accelerating after a red light turns green.

LIGHT ENERGY Produced by the vibrations of charged particles.

CHEMICAL TO ELECTRIC -An energy conversion that occurs when a battery powers any sort of appliance or device.

SPEED -How fast an object is moving. -Distance over time.

ELECTRICAL TO LIGHT - The energy conversion that occurs when a light bulb gets turned “on”.

MAGNETIC FORCE The attraction or repulsion that one magnet exerts on another, or the attraction between a magnet and certain metals.

SOUND ENERGY An objects vibrations through the air around it.

FORCE Any push or pull exerted on an object

NUCLEAR TO THERMAL AND LIGHT - The energy conversion that takes place in the core of the sun.

ROLLING KINETIC FRICTION -Friction between two surfaces that slide past each other. -A wheel of a bike going over concrete. -Anything with wheels.

UNBALANCED FORCE -Non-zero net force -Causes changes in the motion of an object -A soccer ball after it was kicked.

SLIDING KINETIC FRICTION -Friction between two surfaces that slide past each other. -Scratching your skin. -Writing with a pencil

ELASTIC FORCE - The force that is exerted by a material when it is stretched - A rubber band

NON CONTACT FORCE -A force exerted by an object that DOES NOT touch the receiver -Magnetism -Gravity

REFERENCE POINT -An object that appears to stay in place as another object is moving. -The earth’s surface, mountain, trees, buildings, etc.

FRICTION -Occurs when the hills and valleys of two surfaces rub against each other. -Generates heat -Slows down motion

ACCELERATION -Any change in an objects speed or direction. -Commonly referred to the “speeding up” of an object.

VELOCITY Speed in a certain direction

GRAVITY The mutual force of attraction exerted by particles of matter.

KINETIC TO POTENTIAL -An energy conversion where an object goes from moving to not moving. -A soccer ball that rolls to a stop. -A car that comes to a red light.

CHEMICAL TO KINETIC AND THERMAL -The energy conversion that food goes through as it breaks down in the body. -The energy conversion that powers vehicles to move.
