1 Shall we dance?

2 What is it? Sardana is a popular Catalan dance, considered the national dance of Catalonia. The name sardana can refer to the dance or the music. Sardana is a dance done in a group and in a circle. It is a collective dance that men and women dance holding hands, forming a circle and tapping to the rhythm of the sardana band with their feet.

3 How to dance sardana? An indeterminate number of dancers form a circle holding hands and staring at the middle when they are about to dance a sardana. They dance to the right and left with a stable tempo, usually slowly with a look of concentration and in some moments livelier. Sardana is a non-excluding dance, in this way anybody and in any moment of the dance can join individually or in a couple to the circle (unless it is a contest or an exhibition). This dance is more complicated than it looks. The dancers must count the number of steps, and also identify the rhythm changes, the volume of the song and other music features to interpret correctly with the steps, with resources like the air and the hop, wider movement steps, etc.

8 LA SARDANA (poema) La Sardana és la dansa més bella de totes les danses que es fan i es desfan, és la mòbil, magnífica anella que amb pausa i amb mida va lenta oscil·lant. Joan Maragall LA SARDANA (poem) La Sardana is the most beautiful dance Of all dances that are done and undone, It is the mobile, wonderful ring that with a pause and measure goes slowly swung. Joan Maragall
