3 Supported housing & housing for older people  Older People  People with HIV / AIDS  Teenage Parents  Those with drug or alcohol problems  People with mental health problems  Young people leaving care  Single homeless  Offenders  Women at risk of domestic violence  People with learning disabilities  And others  £2bn in SHG has funded most of the 393,000 supported housing and homes for older people owned by HAs  17% supported housing lettings to people from BME communities  About 10% of the Corporation’s total programme catering for:

4 Supporting People 2003 - impact on capital funding  Great change for all  Separation of capital and revenue  Bids round 2003  Reduced supported housing capital allocations (04/06) to 5% of programme, probably due to: Sector uncertainty at intro of SP Incomplete Supporting People strategies Revenue funding guarantees required New schemes favoured over remodelled Shift to floating support

5 Housing Corporation action  Revenue guarantees requirement removed, but did require: SP commissioning body support consistency with the Regional Housing Strategies capability of conversion into alternative use clear exit strategy  HC and ODPM wrote jointly to all LAs and RSLs encouraging them to work in partnership and bid  Remodelled units counted as new

6 National Affordable Housing Programme (NAHP) 2006-08  Achieved Vulnerable People strategy aim to increase capital funding to supported housing and housing for older people  Regional Housing Strategy targets all met  Doubled allocations nationally to £385m  Increase of £¼ billion over 2 years  10% of programme
