2 Hitler attempted to transform German Society with policies directed at youth and the Jewish people (Note: for this answer you should write a short essay of several paragraphs including an introduction and a conclusion) 1.Explain the effects of Nazi policies between 1933 and 1939 towards: EITHER a)Young people8 OR b)Jewish people8

3 Source B is from “Hitler’s Germany” by Josh Brooman. Source B In many ways life in Nazi Germany became more like military life. Many mass rallies took place. The most famous of them were held each year at Nuremberg in one of four specially built arenas outside the town. Just one of these arenas could hold 400,000 people. There they watched military parades and listened to choirs and to speeches. Each event at the rally was staged to perfection. At the 1937 rally, 100,000 men, each exactly 0.75 metres apart, marched past Hitler carrying 32,000 flags and banners. 2.How fully does Source B describe the military features of life in Nazi Germany? You must use evidence from the source and your own knowledge and give reasons for your answer. 4 marks. 2007C

4 Source C describes the experiences of a former member of the Hitler Youth. Source C If other people rave about their time in the Hitler Youth, I cannot share their enthusiasm. My memories are that it was very oppressive. In our troop, activities consisted almost entirely of military drill. Even at sport or shooting practice we had to do drill first. Every day was the same monotonous routine. Then there was the endless marching. It was more punishment than fun. The slightest sign of weakness meant more drill! But, there was method in this madness: from childhood onwards we were drilled in toughness and obedience. 3.Discuss the attitude of the writer of Source C towards the activities of the Hitler Youth. 4 marks. 2009C
