2 What is domestic abuse? Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality. This can encompass but is not limited to psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional abuse. This definition includes so called ‘honour’ based violence, female genital mutilation (FGM) and forced marriage. Victims are not confined to one gender or ethnic group.

4 Coercive Control Coercive control describes a range or pattern of behaviours that enable a perpetrator to maintain or regain control of a partner, ex-partner or family member.

8 What is high risk domestic abuse? A risk that is life-threatening and/or traumatic and from which recovery, whether physical or psychological, can be expected to be difficult or impossible The risk is imminent DASH Risk Identification Checklist (RIC) Risk is dynamic

10 High Risk Indicators Victim’s perception of risk Separation (child contact) Pregnancy and childbirth Escalation of abuse Community issues Stalking Sexual Assault Strangulation/ choking/drowning/suffocation Threats to kill Use of weapons Controlling and/or excessively jealous behaviour Child abuse Abuse of animals and/or pets Alcohol/Drugs/Mental Health Suicide/Homicide
