2  Aim: What was the Mesolithic Era  Do Now: If you were living out in a barren wasteland, what would you use for shelter?  If you were living on frozen tundra, what would you eat?

3  Mesolithic Era was the Middle Stone Age.   During this time people learned to adapt to new areas that they migrated to.

5  Q1 What is a land bridge? Why did humans cross them? When did this happen?  Q2 Make and inference as to why it took so long for early people to reach South America?  Q3 Create an organizer showing where people migrated first.  Q4 Analyze the benefits and downfalls of migration.

6 .Although fire helped keep people warm in very cold areas, people needed more protection. To keep warm, they learned to sew animal skins together to make clothing.  In addition to clothing, people needed shelter to survive. At first they took shelter in caves. When they moved to areas with no caves, they built their own shelters. 

7  These first human houses were called “pit shelters.” They were pits in the ground with roofs of branches and leaves.   Later, people began to build homes above the ground. Some lived in tents made of animal skins.   Others used wood, stone clay or even large animal bones.

8  Why did people have to learn how to make clothes and build shelters during the Mesolithic Era?
