Games That Are Safe: On the internet there are some sites that are appropriate for children and some that are not. Websites that are safe are online games which are rated ‘U’ (Universal) these online game websites can be Club Penguin, Moshi Monsters and other child friendly sites Video Related Sites That Are Safe On the internet there are a few video websites. These websites are either rated ‘PG’ or ‘U’ depending on what category you choose. Sites like ‘YouTube’ are safe, however there are inappropriate video that are rated ‘18’ ‘15’ and older ages. If you are any of these ages that means you are ‘legally’ allowed to watch that video. However if you are under that age you are not permitted that access to the video. On YouTube's website there is an option called ‘restricted mode’ This allows the viewer to only see ‘U’ or ‘PG’ Video and no graphical content meaning no violence swearing etc.

Whilst watching a film or playing a game on the internet, you will see these age warning’s. These age warnings are set into 5 main group ages. Ages 3-7 are ‘U’ meaning universal (anyone can see, watch or play it) 12-16 are ‘PG’ (parental guidance meaning that parents have to confirm what the child watches) Ages 18 will be containing footage that may be inappropriate for others such as violence bad language and other adult related content

Within the ‘U’ group there is NO bad language. The only acceptations that are allowed are ‘Damn and Hell’ In the ‘U’ group there is no fighting or violence the only ‘fighting’ scene is when the ‘baddie’ Is carrying a weapon other than that there are no fighting scenes Most TV shows e.g. cbeebies nick jr and other children-cartoons are all rated ‘U’. Programmes such as ‘Chugging ton, paw patrol and other programmes’ These programmes are considered for children under the age of four or pre – school children, but as these programmes are considered ‘U’ anybody can watch or view them

PG stands for Parental Guidance. This means a film is suitable for general viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children. A PG film should not unsettle a child aged around eight or older. Parents should consider whether the content may upset younger, or more sensitive, children. Television programmes such as East Enders are PG. This is because it has some violent behaviour and other adult content. Films such as home alone are a mixture between ‘U’ and ‘PG’ the reason for this is because anyone can view it and because it has some reference of bad language (very mild) and violence.

Social Media, such as Facebook and Twitter can be a great way to keep in touch and share moments with loved ones, but Facebook has a down side - it can be very dangerous too. We should always listen and pay attention to the ‘terms and conditions’ of any website including social media. The reason why children under the age of 13 aren’t allowed social media access legally is because there are dangerous people that may ruin the experience. On the two most popular social media networks (Facebook & Twitter) you have to be legally 13 years old otherwise Facebook and Twitter will deny you sign up.

When creating social media there will always be a tick box at the end asking for acceptation of the terms and conditions. Terms and Conditions are like rules. You have to read and accept them to create a certain social account or enter any Website. The Terms and conditions are basic rules like: Don’t create a fake account of someone else No harassment or cyber bullying You will not upload viruses or other malicious code. You will not use Facebook (or any social media) if you are under 13 You will not create more than one personal account You will not share you password with anyone apart from Facebook (or whatever social media)
