Using the template above, students are to draw a series of lines and shapes in the boxes provided. This should be a very, instinctive process, DON’T OVER THINK IT! CONNECTING THE DOTS…

Column 1: Draw a single line in each box (Organic or Geometric or both!) THESE SHOULD BE VERY SPONTANEOUS LINES! Column 2: Draw two lines in each box (Organic or Geometric or both!) Column 3: Draw 3 lines in each box (Organic or Geometric or both!)

NEXT… Row 1: Draw a single SHAPE in each box (Organic or Geometric or both!) THESE SHOULD BE VERY SPONTANEOUS SHAPES! Row 2: Draw two SHAPES in each box (Organic or Geometric or both!) Row 3: Draw 3 SHAPES in each box (Organic or Geometric or both!)

THEN… From this process, students will have NINE separate, non- objective or abstract designs. Have them select the design of the most “VISUAL INTEREST.” *THAT DOES NOT MEAN EASIEST!* Students will then re-create or approximate that one design, in the three spaces at the bottom of the sheet. Color should be applied via specific color schemes: Primary, Secondary and Analogous

Choose one of the three designs and create a one point perspective drawing inspired by that design.

NEXT… Choose one of the three designs and create a collage inspired from that design. Students can also choose a digital collage as well.

NEXT… Students should have a basic understanding of color mixing and color theory. I usually test that knowledge before hand, and have them create a painting inspired from one of the three designs

Choose one of the three designs and create a sculpture inspired by that design.

THEN... Do a drawing of the sculpture.

The end products are a series of 2D-Design, Drawing and 3D Designs all inspired from the works of the original “lines and shapes.” You can be as specific or as general as you choose.
