4 Course Description: World Geography allows students to study the interaction of humans and their environments in a world setting. Students study global patterns of physical and cultural characteristics, including landforms, climate, vegetation, population, economic and political structures, culture and international and interregional connections. Using maps and other geographic representations students will examine spatial relationships as well as the interaction of physical and cultural characteristics of various places, areas, or regions. Students are expected to apply their knowledge of geographic concepts to current global issues that arise. Guiding course content are the themes of location, characteristic of place, human/environmental interaction, movement between places, and regions.

6 Geography Notebook: At least 200 pages Table of contents Glued in calendars All work is glued in upon return/ stamp Notebook checks occur after each unit of study and count as a quiz/test grade.

7 Assignments: Assignments will include, but are not be limited to: Discussions Lecture notes Group activities Presentations Study guides Warm-ups Debates Current events Essays Quizzes (announced and unannounced) Tests.

8 Grading Policy: All assignments are graded on a point system No extra credit is available Class work can be expected on a daily basis. Homework is an extension of the classroom learning experience and will be assigned on a regular basis. Homework is due at the beginning of the period that has been determined. There is a school-wide policy not to accept late work unless it is due to an excused absence. It is the student's sole responsibility to get make-up work due to an absence ( see student area ). The number of days absent is how long a student has to turn in their assignment.

9 Grading Scale: 90-100% = A 80-89% = B 70-79% = C 60-69% = D 0-59% = F

10 Areas of Study: Course Content: Unit 1: Basic Geographic Principles, Chapters 1-4 Unit 2: Europe, Chapters 11-13 Unit 3: Sub-Saharan Africa, Chapters 20-22 Unit 4: East Asia, Chapters 26-28 Unit 5: Middle East/North Africa, Chapters 17-19 Unit 6: South Asia, Chapters 23-25 Unit 7: Geographic Perspectives of Democracy, Pg295, Chapter 11 Unit 8: North America, Chapters 5-7 Unit 9: Russia, Chapters 14-15 Unit 10: Latin America, Chapters 8-10

11 Class Rules: 1) No food, drink, gum or candy will be permitted in class. 2) Remain in your assigned seat unless directed to do otherwise (for example: group work or changing assigned seating). 3) Respect other people and their property. 4) You are responsible for your education; the teacher is only your guide. 5) No profanity (bad language). 6) Raise your hand when you have or want to answer a question, participate or need to get out of your seat. 7) No Cell Phones (text messaging), IPOD’s, MP3’s or any technology of this kind.

12 Class Procedures: 1. Be in your seat when the bell rings. 2. Copy the agenda and homework from the front board and then begin your warm-up. 3. Have your homework on your desk and ready to be turned in. 4. Always raise your hand when you wish to speak. 5. At the end of the class period, do not leave the room without being dismissed by the teacher. Remember the bell does not dismiss you, the teacher does.
