3 HIGH SCHOOL GRAD REQUIREMENTS 3 years Social Science ( World History or AP European History, US History, and Govt./Econ) 4 years English 2 years Math (must include Algebra 1) 2 years Science ( 1 year Physical Science and 1 year Biology) 1 year Fine Art 2 years Physical Education 1 year Practical Art (requirement waived if three years of foreign language are completed) 1 year Health / Careers Additional credits as needed to complete a total of 230 credits. Service learning : 10 hours CAHSEE Math and English

5 Successful completion of the “A – G” requirements qualifies you for a California Four Year University (CSU/UC) How are the A – G requirements different from BUSD High School Graduation requirements? – World Languages:Students need to successfully complete two years of World Languages courses with a “C” grade or better. – Mathematics: Students need to successfully complete an additional third year of math with a “C” grade or better. – Science: Students need to successfully complete a Chemistry or Physics class in addition to Biology (Please note: Geoscience does not count for A – G Science credits) In addition…. All academic coursework must be completed with a minimum of a “C” grade Cal State Universities require a minimum of 2.0 academic GPA University of California require a minimum of 3.0 academic GPA Students must take the SAT or ACT exams.

6 Tips for Student Success Tips for Student Success Freshman year: -Focus on academic GPA -Complete 10+ Service Learning Hours -Get involved in clubs / organizations Attend school on time and regularly. Use respect when dealing with teachers, peers, and others in positions of authority. Stay organized by using a planner to keep track of assignments, homework, and projects. Be proactive about academic success. – CSF Tutoring begins around Week 5 in the Library after school: – Days & times to be announced. The tutoring will be in all subject areas.

7 Who should you contact with Academic Questions or Concerns? Step 1: Contact the teacher/coach of the class in question: – Dial 818-558-4777 & the teacher’s extension. – Teachers’ emails/phone extensions listed on www.burbankusd.org/jbhs Step 2: If the issue is not resolved after communication with teacher, contact your student’s counselor.

8 To obtain missed work due to an EXCUSED absence: – Contact the teachers directly by phone or email We encourage students to email their teachers for make-up work. – Check teacher websites, if available. – If absent for 3 days or more: Contact the counseling assistants at 558-4777 ext 61941 or 61942. How to obtain make-up work?

9 Social Media and School Students who post pictures, comments or other information on social media sites, which are felt to be bullying or threatening will receive school-based consequences. Consequences may include suspension from school or possible legal action via Burbank Police Department.

10 Last Names A – L Thursday, August 6 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. Last Names M – Z Friday, August 7 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. What should students bring the day of orientation? – Completed enrollment paperwork – Backpack to carry textbooks home – Money for ASB Cards ($40), Student Store Apparel (PE Clothes), etc. – Photo order form (if purchasing pictures) What will happen on orientation day? – Students receive their initial schedule of classes – Meet fellow classmates and staff members – Participate in a pep rally led by our ASB – Get a tour of the campus – Receive a student ID card – Sit in on an informational presentation about the school Freshmen Orientation (Students Only)
