1 Pros and Cons: of Using Pesticides: Organic vs
Pros and Cons: of Using Pesticides: Organic vs. Inorganic Fertilizers Pd. 2

2 Pesticides and Fertilizers
Inorganic pesticides work as poisons and are intentionally released into our environment to eliminate and control weeds, insects, fungus, and rodents in our environment. While, inorganic fertilizers are composed of synthetic, artificial ingredients which do not need to be decomposed over time to supply nutrients to plants. Organic pesticides are derived from natural sources, such as tree roots. They still serve to kill pests , though. Organic Fertilizer is a soil amendments that is derived from natural sources and decomposes over time.

3 Techniques Pesticides are usually applied via spray.
Fertilizers are just spread over moist soil, about 3 weeks after planting. The use of inorganic pesticides to manage pest problems has become a common practice around the world. Despite the negative environmental impact and health hazards from the chemicals and toxins spreading in the water and land, they remain a popular use to many farmers due to the cheap and effective way to protect and nourish their plants. Nutrients such as carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen are always available to the plants.

4 Areas affected by pesticides/fertilizers
Pesticides are used mostly in developed countries, but are also making their way in developing countries. The regions most impacted by pesticide/fertilizer pollution are Central America, South America. Easter Europe/Central Asia, and Africa. Cotton fields have one of the highest ranks in pesticide/fertilization use.

5 Ecological Impact Farmlands saturated with toxic pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers migrate into ground water, rivers, lakes and oceans, and spread toxic chemicals that not only contaminate the water and land with harmful toxins, but also go into our drinking water and food that can result in major health hazards for humans and animals. 6 Prevention/Remedies There are chemical-free strategies to substitute the use of inorganic pesticides/fertilizers such as: Switch to organic pesticides/fertilizers; traps; use native plants, trees, and grasses; fill cracks in walls and pavement; keep vegetation at least 1 foot away from structures; clean garbage cans often; make sure compost bins are properly maintained.

7 Technique Organic pesticides are purposely applied to the environment with aim to suppress plant and animal pests and to protect agricultural and industrial products. They are not easily degradable, they persist in soil, leach to groundwater and surface water and contaminate wide environment. Organic fertilizers can cause water pollution when erosion carries the chemicals off of farms along with eroded soils after each rain fall. The use of these could “double or triple food production” in Africa.

8 Technique Organic fertilizers are composed of elements that can be hazardous to the environment; like the ingredient phosphorus is dangerous when used near streams and lakes because it causes eutrophication(algae growth). Organic pesticides are known for poisoning in foods and the cause of human fatalities.
