3. Urban Planner Kevin (Footloose) Bacon’s father Edmund Bacon was a famous Urban Planner. Responsible for much of the layout of modern Philadelphia.

6. Urbanization Like most parts of the world, Latin America is becoming more urbanized. Urban Primacy – a country in which a disproportionally large city dominates the urban system and is the center of economic, cultural, and political life. These cities are 3 to 4 times larger than any other city in the country. Lima, Buenos Aires and Mexico City are examples.

18. Unfortunately… The extreme urbanization has caused severe housing shortages. Growth of squatter settlements or favelas. Unequal distribution of wealth and a relatively small middle class. Has led to the growth of an informal economic sector. EXAMPLE: drug trade
