Theme By persevering faith, we can have partnership with God’s King-Priest Son!

Theme If we stay faithful, our future is to share the reign of Jesus Christ!

Heb. 3:1-2 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house.

Not only are the readers Christians, the author addresses those he considers “partners” with him in their “heavenly calling”. Welcome to our house!

Heb. 3:3-4 For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house. For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.

Heb. 3:5-6 And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

Focus: The faithfulness of Moses and Jesus over their “houses”. Welcome to our house!

Heb. 3:7-9 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years.

Ex. 17:1-2 Then all the congregation of the children of Israel set out on their journey from the Wilderness of Sin, according to the commandment of the L ORD, and camped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink. Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, “Give us water, that we may drink.”

Ex. 17:2b-3 So Moses said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the L ORD ?” And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said, “Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”

Ex. 17:4-5 So Moses cried out to the L ORD, saying, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me!” And the L ORD said to Moses, “Go on before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Israel. Also take in your hand your rod with which you struck the river, and go.

Ex. 17:6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Ex. 17:7 So he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the L ORD, saying, “Is the L ORD among us or not?”

Ex. 17:1-7 “Massah” = “testing” “Meribah” = “contention; quarreling” Num. 20:1-13 Welcome to our house!

Num. 20:1-2 Then the children of Israel, the whole congregation, came into the Wilderness of Zin in the first month, and the people stayed in Kadesh; and Miriam died there and was buried there. Now there was no water for the congregation; so they gathered together against Moses and Aaron.

Num. 20:3-4 And the people contended with Moses and spoke, saying: “If only we had died when our brethren died before the L ORD ! Why have you brought up the assembly of the L ORD into this wilderness, that we and our animals should die here?

Num. 20:5-6 And why have you made us come up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates; nor is there any water to drink.” So Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the tabernacle of meeting, and they fell on their faces. And the glory of the L ORD appeared to them.

Num. 20:7-9 Then the L ORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their animals.” So Moses took the rod from before the L ORD as He commanded him.

Num. 20:10-11 And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock; and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels! Must we bring water for you out of this rock?” Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank.

Num. 20:12-13 Then the L ORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.” This was the water of Meribah, because the children of Israel contended with the L ORD, and He was hallowed among them.

Have you ever what would happen to you if you didn’t worry or complain? What would God do? Welcome to our house!

Our lack of faith discourages the family of faith. Welcome to our house!

We have a role in impacting the eternity of others. Look what happened to Moses’ future, by way of application. Welcome to our house!

Heb. 13:17 Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.

Num. 13:26-27 Now they departed and came back to Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. Then they told him, and said: “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.

Num. 13:28-29 Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan.”

Num. 13:30-31 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.”

Num. 13:32-33 And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”

Heb. 3:10-11 Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.’ So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’”

“Rest” = “Inheritance”, “Salvation” (deliverance from their enemies) The Promise Land earned by obedience. Welcome to our house!
