Goals (Objectives) Challenges (as you play what happens to make it a challenge) Rewards (in game, xp points) Player actions Rules Difficulty levels and increasing difficulty in game Game mechanics (inventory, scoring, win condition) Balance (make it fair, not too hard or too easy) Feedback (key information to help the player with progress) Game structure (start – end) Addiction (what makes you want to play again?)

Discuss in small groups: 1.What is the interaction model Avatar or omnipresent? 2.Number of players 3.List the rules of the game? 4.What is the Goal of the game? 5.What are the Challenges within the game? 6.What rewards are in the game? 7.Is there a narrative? 8.What is the win/lose/draw condition? 9.What feedback is provided to suggest you have won? 10.Is the game addictive? 11.How is the game balanced?

6 Change and play the game? In pairs change the traditional Tic-Tac- Toe game. Suggestions are: Change the game world e.g. More grids? Add more characters? Change the rules? Change the win-lose condition? Anything else you can think of... Discuss with the group your changes and consider how it changes game play.
