2 COMPUTER GAMES Games and virtual environments are emerging and becoming more and more popular in the classroom. William Higinbotham is credited with developing the first computer game. What is a computer game? An activity characterized by competition, rules, and winning or losing. They can be single or multi- player. If used correctly they can become a key tool in teaching.

6 THE FUTURE OF GAMING IN THE CLASSROOM As technology increases in the classroom, so will gaming. Educators and gaming developers have begun developing games based around content standards. As computers become more and more sophisticated so will the computer games.
