3 Part 1: Jesus of Nazareth A Jewish man who claimed to be both man and God. In AD 30 went throughout Galilee and Judea preaching about the ‘Kingdom of God’. He taught using parables Parables: Stories about everyday life so people can apply it to their life

4 Part 1: Jesus of Nazareth His messages included : 1.God created all people equal 2.We all fall short to God’s goodness 3.To follow religious laws isn’t enough. People must love God and people Greatest commandments: 1)“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, and with all your strength” 2)“Love Your neighbor as yourself ” 4.Salvation and Forgiveness

5 Part 1: Jesus of Nazareth Romans and Jewish Leaders saw Jesus as threat In AD 33 Jesus and 12 disciples came to Jerusalem during Passover. People called him deliverer

6 Part 1: Jesus of Nazareth He had Last Supper According to Christian Bible he was betrayed by Judas Iscariot Sentenced to die through crucifixion Three days later he resurrects from the dead

7 Part 2: The Apostles Apostles: People who were called by Jesus to spread the message of Christianity “Christ” comes from Greek word Christos: The Anointed One These apostles spread their faith in eastern part of Mediterranean forming communities of prayer, communion, and studies of Hebrew Bible

8 Part 2: The Apostles Peter Original 12 Apostle Fisherman Reached out to Jewish population in proximity of Jerusalem Paul Later Apostle Well-educated Jew and Roman citizen Reached out to Gentiles through eastern Mediterranean

9 Part 3: Roman-Jewish Conflicts Romans controlled Judea with a procurator: Roman governor Many revolts occurred against Rome 1.Zealots: Rebelled in AD 66 Vespasian destroyed the temple in AD 70 Zealots held their ground in Masada for two years 15 to 1 men. 2.Another Jewish Rebellion crushed by Romans Romans prohibited Jews to return to Jerusalem Jewish population spread as far as Spain and Central Asia.
