2 Folie 2 NKS Raumfahrt, Dr. Adrian klein 2 Interests Project scope: LIBS sensor equipment for aerial and ground platforms Project objectives: Technology demonstrator of sensor equipment based on LIBS technology (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectrography) for remote detection of explosives. Project abstract: LIBS has been proven as a very effective technic for remote identification of chemical composition of substances. Explosive materials can be identified using this technics as they have very specific chemical “signatures”. For the moment there is no technology capable to detect explosives remotely, having a physical barrier between the material and the sensor. Main advantage of LIBS is that is able to detect extremely little quantities of explosive materials (traces), that usually are present in the external surfaces and surroundings of IEDs (Improvised Explosive Device). The scope of this project is to concentrate all necessary devices for LIBS sensing in a single and robust equipment that could be integrated in different kinds of platforms. This means to adequate loads, dimensions, power consumption, interfaces and environmental conditions to platforms integration requirements and mission requirements, that will be also generated during the project in collaboration with potential end users as police, army, etc. These collaborations will allow testing of the demonstrator in ranges against specially prepared specimens.
