2 Dividing Syllables Between Vowels We have learned about vowel teams and how we use them to sound out words. Some words contain two vowels that, when sounded out, do not make a word. poet create These words look like they would have a long vowel sound.

3 Dividing Syllables Between Vowels When you try to sound them out with a long sound they do not make real words. pō/et crē/āte So, you will need to divide these words between the vowels. o / cl o / ME poet create

4 Dividing Syllables Between Vowels Here is a three syllable word that will need to be divided between vowels. lē/ō/tărd o / o / cl leotard

5 Dividing Syllables Between Vowels Let's put in some syllable divisions for some more words. cam/e/o cameo diagonal di/ag/on/al biology bi/ol/ogy

6 Dividing Syllables Between Vowels rad/i/o radio video vid/e/o genealogy gen/e/al/o/gy dialog di/a/log meteor met/e/or pioneer pi/o/neer

7 Irregular Plural Nouns In lesson 16 we learned about adding s and es to make plural nouns. Nouns that can be made plural by adding s or es are called regular plural nouns. There are many nouns that can not be made plural this way.

8 Irregular Plural Nouns These words are called irregular plural nouns. You must remember their plural form instead of just adding letters. one goose - ten geese one mouse – two mice

9 Irregular Plural Nouns One man – seven men One woman – five women one ox – six oxen one foot – two feet one child – many children

10 Irregular Plural Nouns Some words do not change at all. The singular and plural forms are the same one deer – six deer one fish – forty fish one sheep – two sheep one series – three series
