3 Definitions P honology is an abstract unit which systematic studies of particular sounds of a language. Phonology is the study of how sounds are organized and used in natural languages.

4 Difference between phonology and phonetics

5 Syllable The syllable is the basic unit of speech studied in both the phonetic and phonological levels of analysis. Syllable : is the study of the production and sound of it. e.g. car / ka:/ this is phonetically syllable is the study of position (arrangement) of it. E.g. import / impo:t/ phonologically

6 Syllable Words can be cut up into units called syllables. Syllable is a unit of spoken language consisting of a single uninterrupted sound.

8 Forms of syllable 1-V means vowel and it is the minimum syllable of vowel. E.g. I /ai/, or /o:/ are/ a:/ it has one sound. 2-C consonant means the minimum syllable of consonant. e.g. sh /ʃ /. M /m/ 3-CV consonant and vowel. e.g no/ n əu/, car / ka:/ 4-CVC, e.g like/ laik/
