6 (Word Association): English (English Law = Common Law = Case Law) Common Law is based on the Rule of Precedent: This rule came about when a case and it’s decision became common knowledge in the English legal community. All judges who heard cases with similar facts would give similar decisions. Citations Common Law was recorded and became known as case law. To locate certain cases Citations are essential.

7 (Others): Hammurabi, Moses and Mosaic Law, Greeks, Romans and the French (main basis for our system). Canadian Law is based on the English system while Quebec Law is based on the French Civil Code.

8 The term "jurisprudence“ means literally and traditionally "practical wisdom about law," the intellectual capacity to frame and apply laws according to sound theoretical principles. Jurisprudence is the study of the law. (Students of law need to understand the history, sociology, geography, economics and more….to understand the deeper meaning of the law. This deeper knowledge helps to predict the future of our laws).

For all of your discussions provide the evidence that proves that your prediction is accurate. - Will the age for receiving The Canadian Pension Plan be increased to 70? Why or why not? - Will the Canadian stance on Abortion remain the same? Why or why not? What is the stance now? - What parameters will the Canadian government establish for Euthanasia? - Will the legal drinking age be raised or lowered from 19 in Ontario. What is the evidence that supports your opinion? - Will smoking be completely banned in Canada? Why or why not?
